“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken”

Oscar Wilde

The spiritual path began for me many years ago, most notably in the early 1990s, with the discovery of yoga initially through books. Inspired and intrigued, particularly with the physicality and breath connection of yoga, I developed a home practice whilst working as an actor/singer/dancer, which involved extensive travelling, and attended yoga classes whenever possible. Also interested in philosophy and drawn to reading ancient Eastern scriptures, I later discovered those texts were directly related to yoga. It was at this point in life, in the year 2000, I was inspired to teach yoga professionally.

Yoga Teacher Training

Training took place at the Yoga for Health Foundation in 2001–2002, and in India at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in 2001 & 2004. Through these schools I was certified to teach Remedial through to Advanced yoga.

The next two summers were spent working as staff at the Sivananda Headquarters in Canada, assisting advanced training programs, and in 2005 I became accredited as a 500hour+ registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.

The months spent on the ashrams in Canada and India involved assisting my teacher Prahlada Reddy on Advanced and General Yoga Teacher Training courses. As a Karma Yogi I was also required to teach classes and participate fully in Karma Yoga (selfless service) , Kirtan (devotional chanting) and meditation. This engaging experience has enabled me to stay connected to the principle aspects of yoga at a grass roots level.

Yoga Influencers

As a long–time practitioner, I have seen how yoga is changing as it flourishes in the west. Being a member of the Independent Yoga Network (IYN), with whom I am also registered as a 500+ hour yoga teacher, I can keep up to date with all the challenges, political and esoteric, that prevail in the industry. This lively and important group works to maintain the authenticity and diversity of yoga as it grows in popularity in the UK and am honoured to have been invited to teach several times during their day workshops in Essex and around the south of England.

The key inspirational role models who have shaped my teaching style and ethos in yoga as it is today are Prahlada Reddy, Faustomaria Dorelli, and Ellen Lee.

Having taught yoga professionally since 2001, in the UK and around the world, it is their teachings with which I continue to refer to. It is through their knowledge and wisdom, as well as my own experiences in yoga, that’s shown how it is an incredibly powerful tool, accessible for all, to strengthen and heal.

Reiki Attunement

In 2005, interested in the etheric and energetic connection Reiki offered, with its links to the chakras (energy centres) in the body, I studied this subject further and qualified in Reiki I & II. Reiki attunement is an ancient technology for fine–tuning the physical and etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level. Learning how to use Reiki has enabled me to focus much more deeply in connecting with imbalances in the body on an energetic level. Being able to use Reiki has been an invaluable tool in my own development both as a teacher and healing facilitator. After several years of Reiki self–practice, it became a natural progression to include working with clients as a Reiki Practitioner.

Work Life Balance

In 2006, whilst living and working in Colchester, I became a mum and lived there with my two beautiful sons, who have helped keep both feet firmly on the ground whilst continuing to work as a yoga teacher and healing facilitator. There I instructed in acclaimed gyms such as David Lloyd and Bannatyne, as well as running my own classes in The Tree Room, taught yoga for children in a local prep school, Holmwood House, and also ran retreats. In 2018, due to changing circumstances, the boys and I took a huge leap of faith. We upped sticks to move closer to my family in Ruthin, North Wales, and bought the property that is now The Yoga Light Centre.

As well as managing the centre, I continue to run retreats both in the UK and abroad, currently employed by YOAS, teach local weekly yoga classes, offer 1–1 private tuition, and occasional specialised workshops. I’m committed to ensuring that every individual in my care may progress at their own level and develop fully according to their specific need or requirement.
