Yoga has become a way of life that has blossomed in my life over the past twenty plus years. Since 2001, I have regularly taught classes and workshops all over Essex, and have taken groups on various yoga retreats. As a practitioner and teacher, my experiences in yoga have shown that it is a powerful tool to strengthen and heal the body and mind, and can be accessible to all.
The journey, for me, began in the early 1990’s when I discovered yoga through books. Inspired and intrigued, I developed a practice I could use on the move as I travelled extensively working as an actor/singer/dancer, and attended yoga classes whenever possible. Also interested in philosophy, I was reading ancient Eastern scriptures and later discovered they were directly related to yoga. It was at this point in life I was inspired to teach yoga professionally.
Training took place at the Yoga for Health Foundation (2001 & 2002) and also in India at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre (2001 & 2004). During this time I became certified to teach remedial through to advanced yoga. I have periodically worked as staff at the Sivananda Headquarters in Canada, assisting advanced training programs and participating fully in selfless service, devotional chanting and meditation. This has enabled me to stay connected to the principle aspects of yoga at a grass roots level. I am a member of the Independent Yoga Network (IYN) registered as a 500-hour teacher. This is a lively and important group that works to maintain the authenticity and diversity of yoga as it grows in popularity in the UK, and am honored to have been invited to teach several times on their regional day workshops. Teachers of influence include Prahlada Reddy (Sivananda Yoga), Faustomaria Dorelli (Innergy Yoga, London), and Ellen Lee (Chairperson for IYN). These are the key inspirational role models who have shaped my teaching style and ethos in yoga as it is today.
In 2005 I qualified in Reiki I & II. Reiki attunement is an ancient technology for fine-tuning the physical and etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level. Learning how to use Reiki has enabled me to focus much more deeply in connecting with imbalances in the body. Being able to use Reiki has been an invaluable tool in my own development both as a teacher and healing facilitator.
In 2006 I became a mum and am currently living in Colchester with my two sons. I run retreats both in the UK and abroad, and teach local classes in Sivananda Yoga, Yoga for Health and Wellbeing, Postural Correction, courses on Yoga and Diabetes and Yoga in Schools. I am committed to ensuring that each individual in my care may progress at their own level and develop fully according to their specific need or requirement.
