Yoga & the Breath
12th – 14th October 2018, £285
Claridge House, Surrey
Set in the beautiful, peaceful grounds of Claridge House, enjoy a weekend of yoga and learning how to harness the breath for a more profound experience. Learn about the mechanics of breathing and employ conscious intention as a gateway for connecting with the subtle body throughout the regular asana (posture) practice. The specialised breathing techniques will help to harmonize the flow of energy within the body for a more peaceful state of mind. This course is designed both for beginners and more experienced practitioners who wish to explore the fundamental principle of how to fully utilise the breath for enhanced yoga practice.
Full board with own ensuite bedroom. Also includes all meals (freshly home-cooked vegetarian, please inform the venue of special dietary requirements), yoga & meditation.
Friday 20th October 2018, arriving from 4pm for tea and cake, through to Sunday 22nd October 2018 after lunch at 2pm.
The weekend will consist of practical workshops and some talks for consolidation and understanding. Friday evening will consist of open introductions, followed by a talk exploring Prana, and the breathing mechanism as an energy system.
Saturday will involve looking at the nature of mind, positive thinking and the physical effects this can have on the body – To see how working with the breath acts as the key between the mind and body, and how that enhances our mood, whilst improving our state of mind and physical body to positive effect. Visualisations can enable us to connect with our natural rhythm of breathing to gain more awareness about our current state of mind. With that awareness comes the ability to learn to sit with our selves, and our emotions, to ‘connect with the bigger picture’, and then work to control the mind and our emotional state through the breath work and asana practice.
As well as regular asana practice, the classes will involve isolated breathing work - practicing different types of breathing including Kapalibati, Anuloma Viloma, Full Yogic Breath and Ujjayi. We will use conscious breathing in asana work, partner work, and also some theory to better understand the mechanism itself within the body.
Each morning will start with a pre-breakfast ‘opening stretch’ session. Asana work is included along with breath work in the workshops, and we will consolidate towards the end of the course with a complete Hatha Yoga class on Sunday, incorporating what has been learnt during the weekend.
The retreat will be held at Claridge House, a Victorian building with disabled access set in two acres of gardens in the Surrey countryside.
